In Daniel 5, the people of Israel had been living in Babylon for decades. From their perspective, nothing seemed to be changing. They were still surrounded by a culture that was far from God, still waiting for the promise of freedom, and still wondering what God was doing.

But God had not forgotten them.

As Daniel steps into the story of Belshazzar, we’re reminded that God is always working—even when His work is hidden from our view. What looks like an impossible situation can be the very place where God is preparing to move. And woven through the story is a powerful picture of Jesus: the One who comes to set captives free.
